You have your Merchant Mariner’s Credential and your TWIC card; you’ve completed your application forms and you are ready to submit your application for a civil service mariner position. Please note there is a systematic way to apply to Military Sealift Command – it’s found under the “How to Apply” section of each position’s Job Opportunity Announcement.
Each open position at MSC has a corresponding Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA). This document details everything you’ll need to know about any open position: the position description, the minimum eligibility requirements, pay rates, and the evaluation criteria. There is a section called How to Apply on the JOA; this section details the required documents for submitting a complete application. Review this section carefully. Due to the high volume of interest in working for MSC, and to ensure fairness to all applicants, adherence to this process is strictly enforced.
