Submit an Application

Thank you for completing the Information Request Form. Below are the official documents that need to be submitted as part of an application package. Please note Military Sealift Command only accepts application packages for open positions. If you meet the minimum employment requirements and have the experience and qualifications to fill an open position, we welcome your application package for employment consideration.

Conditions of employment with MSC

You must be:

• A U.S. citizen
• At least 18 years old
• Fluent in English (both reading and writing)
• Able to pass a physical and drug test
• Able to obtain a U.S. Coast Guard issued merchant mariner’s credential
• A Department of Homeland Security issued transportation worker identification credential
• Able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance

You may not be hired if you fail to report:

1. Previous security clearance issues
2. Debts
3. Previous felony convictions if more than one year actual time was served in jail

Application Checklist

1. Include a copy of both the front and back of your merchant mariner’s credential.  It must have at least 10 months validity remaining. If you need to obtain, renew or upgrade your document visit: www.uscg.mil/stcw/. The Coast Guard charges a fee for issuing a MMC (which will not be reimbursed by MSC if hired).
2. Include a copy of your United States passport. Please DO NOT send the original. There must be at least 7 months remaining before expiration. If you do not have a passport or need to renew yours, please visit your local post office.
3. All applicants need to include a copy of their transportation worker identification credential.  To learn more click here.
4. Complete the application package documents listed above.
5. If you are prior military please submit a copy of page 4 of your DD-214. If you don’t have your DD-214 click here to obtain. If you qualify for veteran’s preference please submit Standard Form 15 (click here to download www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/SF15.pdf)
6. Mail your completed application package to:
